Adventurous Styled Waterfall Elopement - Snoqualmie Falls, Washington
I just want to start out by expressing so much gratitude to everyone who helped me pull this amazing Pacific Northwest styled waterfall elopement off. I think these are some of my favourite images ever and it was so hard to choose which photos to include in the blog post!
I was lucky enough to plan a trip to Seattle with some of my closest friends as a reward to myself for finishing up my wedding season (kind of, not really). I love adventuring in the Pacific Northwest and am so inspired by the lush rainforest and the mossy old growth trees that I thought it would be a perfect place to do some shooting. I was fortunate enough to connect with a fellow photographer from Seattle, Tamara, who generously took the afternoon out of her Sunday to drive to Snoqualmie Falls, let us into her members-only access point, and walk us down to the base of the falls. She hung out with us while I photographed the stunning Paul & Michelle who also donated their time (and amazing style) to this session, all the while balancing precariously on slippery rocks. Paul is another photographer from the Seattle area... he is super talented and also a killer model! ;) Finally I have to give thanks to my friend Ali from Powell Floral Design as well as Lori & Marco who all helped get me to & from the shoot and were amazing assistants and cheerleaders. Ali does amazing bouquets in Victoria BC and sources a lot of her flowers locally through foraging. Her bouquets are honestly so incredible and unique.
We started out the shoot by sourcing an amazing bouquet full of florals we found at the Seattle Public Market. We sipped on local coffee while I had my mind blown watching Ali go to work. My favourite part of the bouquet was the flowering kale (looks like cabbage). I didn't know how it would work in a bouquet but Ali pulled it all together seamlessly. After we had our flowers we adventured 45 minutes outside of Seattle to the Snoqualmie Falls Forest Theatre. You can view Snoqualmie Falls from the public park on the other side of the falls but to gain access to the bottom you actually need to be a member of the Forest Theatre which is gated and gives access to a bunch of amazing trails throughout the property. Paul and Michelle made their way slowly across the slippery rocks and looked majestic as can be with the misty waterfall in the background. Michelle was a beautiful barefoot bride and was up for anything I asked. We were really lucky because Snoqualmie Falls had a lot of volume this day which made the waterfall even more misty and powerful than usual. The colours of the green moss, the contrasting black rocks, and the foggy waterfall in the background make for some incredible moody images... just my favourite. We even played around with a smoke bomb to create a bit more atmosphere for the last few photos. This was all around a magical day and I hope that I can photograph more adventurous wedding and elopement couples in the future!
